Gas turbine propulsion plants for hovercraft

Gas turbine propulsion plants for five types of hovercrafts with carrying capacity from 10 to 150 tons and the speed of 60 knots have been designed and verified during their operation. Main propulsion engines of lightweight constructions and light gearboxes are installed on board the crafts.
An experience gained during the hovercrafts designing and operation can provide gas turbine propulsion plants with improved characteristics composed of unified elements: Propulsion system – a gas turbine engine with power output up to 10000 h.p. and a gearbox for propeller operation
(installed in line with propellers).
Propulsion complex’s unit power increase is inexpedient because of augmentation in weight and dimensions of the gas turbine engine and the gearbox being located high above the deck.
Lifting complex – a gas turbine engine + two gearboxes for two lift fans operation. Engine unit power can vary according to ship requirements.
